About

by Harold Pinter

Cast – Mark Holliday, Adrian McDougall, Toby Spearpoint

Director Hedda Bird
Designer Victoria Spearing

Arguably the best play by the best English playwright of the 20th Century, Pinter’s masterpiece remains as powerful and utterly captivating as it was in 1960. A cluttered West London attic provides the backdrop for the fascinating power struggle that ensues between two brothers and the garrulous vagrant Davies, whose papers are in Sidcup. Though offering a comment on the wider world with all its battles for dominance and territory, The Caretaker gives its audience something much more powerful and intangible. For through the dark comic banter and enigmatic silences between the three men there develops a most remarkable sense of tension and suspense. At turns terrifying, moving and wildly funny, this is compulsive theatre.
